Why does LearnAlberta.ca no longer support Quick Time on the Windows Platform?

Apple has announced that they will no longer support Quick Time on the Windows Platform and will no longer be issuing security updates for the product. Further, there are two recent security advisories detailing critical vulnerabilities affecting QuickTime for Windows. Computers running QuickTime for Windows will continue to work after support ends. However, using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. Potential negative consequences include loss of confidentiality, integrity, or availability of data, as well as damage to system resources or business assets. The only mitigation available is to uninstall QuickTime for Windows. Users can find instructions for uninstalling QuickTime for Windows on the Apple Uninstall QuickTime.

How do I locate the distributed learning courses (Tools4Teachers)?

Distributed learning courses (Tools4Teachers courses) are available to those holders of personal teacher accounts only. Sign in to your personal teacher account and search using the keyword T4T in the search panel on the homepage. You can also narrow your search by using the grade level and subject filters if you want to return a shorter list of courses.

Why are some of the resources so slow on my computer?

This site works best with a high-speed Internet connection. You can access resources without high-speed, but some of them will be slow.

What's the difference between a jurisdictional account and a personal account?

Both accounts allow you to use licensed resources on the site. Personal accounts allow you to save resources for easy access in the future. Alberta teachers may opt to create a personal teacher account. This type of account allows you to add your own web-based resources, organize resources into folders, make notes, share resources by email, and share lists of resources by a web link.

Where can I find the Online Guide to Implementation?

The new LearnAlberta website contains all of the great resources that support program implementation formerly located in the Online Guide to Implementation. We heard from teachers that all of the resources that support a program should be located on one website so we built this website with that in mind. All of the resources that support program implementation can be found through either the applicable program of studies or through search. If you have bookmarked a favorite resource from the old Online Guide to Implementation, you will be automatically redirected to the same resource on the new LearnAlberta website when using that bookmark.

Some of the resources don't work on my computer. Why not?

Some of the resources require special add-ons to your browser called plug-ins. If a resource isn't working you may need one of these add-ons. Click the Check My System link to find out if you need to add any plug-ins to your browser. If your computer is missing critical plug-ins, click on the link provided, in order to access the free update. If the Check My System link says that your system doesn't need any updates, you may need to get technical assistance to find out why a resource isn't working.

Where can I find my jurisdiction's user ID and password?

Computers in many Alberta schools are automatically signed in to their jurisdictional accounts. If your computer is automatically signed in, the jurisdiction username and password will appear in the top right of the screen. If you're not automatically signed in, check with your teacher or school principal. If you still can't find the username and password for your school authority, contact Learn Alberta Support via email at:

How do I get a user username and password?

Each school authority in Alberta has been issued a username and password for the website. Computers in many Alberta schools are automatically signed in to their jurisdictional accounts. If you are using an auto-signed-in computer, the username and password appear at the top right of the page. If you are not using an auto-signed-in computer, then contact your teacher or school principal and they should be able to give you username and password for your school authority.

Why do I have to sign in to use some resources?

We have paid license fees for some of the resources available on the website. This license fee only covers use by registered users of the site. That is why you have to sign in using your jurisdictional username and password or create a personal account.

I found a resource on my school computer, but when I search from home I can't find it. Why?

Computers in many Alberta schools are automatically signed in to their jurisdictional accounts. That means they have access to licensed resources that are only available to people with an account. In order to see these resources from home you need to sign in using your jurisdictional username and password or create a personal account.
