Definition

The square of a number (or the number squared) occurs as the result of multiplying a number with itself.


n: A number.


n2: The square of a number


n2= n x n


Examples

A number: 5


The square of five (or five squared): 52

The square of five (or five squared): (5)(5)

The square of five (or five squared): 25


52 = 25

A number: -5


The square of negative five (or negative five squared): (-5)2

The square of negative five (or negative five squared): (-5)(-5)

The square of negative five (or negative five squared): 25
