Scaffolding

Bruner (1986) describes scaffolding in teaching as the process in which a teacher provides temporary structures that students can use to develop their own thoughts and ideas. Bruner, who was responsible for much of the early Vygotskian work, describes the specific ways that tutors provide scaffolding in one-on-one situations, often without conscious planning. The processes of scaffolding were subsequently documented in countless studies of adult–child interactions in the home and in the community.
