What Does a Good Health and Safety Culture Look Like?

 

Characteristics of a good health and safety culture include the following:

 

Informed

  • Everyone is prepared to receive both positive and negative feedback.

Mindful

  • Everyone is constantly thinking about what might go wrong and taking actions to prevent incidents before they have the chance to occur.
Educated
  • Necessary skills and competencies are defined. Communication of improvements and lessons are effective throughout all levels of the organization.
Fair
  • Expectations and boundaries are clear and understood.
  • Gaps and deficiencies are addressed in a fair and consistent manner.
Respectful
  • Everyone has a passion for keeping themselves and others free from unacceptable risk or harm.
  • People’s ideas are sought out and taken into consideration.
