What Does a Good Health and Safety Culture Look Like?
Characteristics of a good health and safety culture include the following:
Informed
- Everyone is prepared to receive both positive and negative feedback.
Mindful
- Everyone is constantly thinking about what might go wrong and taking actions to prevent incidents before they have the chance to occur.
- Necessary skills and competencies are defined. Communication of improvements and lessons are effective throughout all levels of the organization.
- Expectations and boundaries are clear and understood.
- Gaps and deficiencies are addressed in a fair and consistent manner.
- Everyone has a passion for keeping themselves and others free from unacceptable risk or harm.
- People’s ideas are sought out and taken into consideration.
